Teaching children the basics of reading writing and counting is not something we should expect our schools to do for us. Schools just do not have the required funding and man power to do this for us without our support.
We cannot blame our schools because we as a collective do not put in the required funding. We are too busy buying the high performance vehicle or smart phone of our dreams to put that extra cash towards the futures of our children.
We put people in power who use our taxes to fund non Godly projects of producing weapons
and arm our enemies over seas instead of protecting our own children and borders.Considering how little money we put into our school system we have amazing teachers and great schools! It saddens me to hear when people keep criticizing our schools. Yes perhaps some of the programs are far too art intensive and play intensive.
I also believe that human beings are all natural creators and artists and so our focus as parents and teachers should be to teach them about reading writing and counting first because the rest will come naturally to them.
You don't need to ask your child to draw. They will pick up a crayon and draw something whether you teach them or not. We are natural creators. Sure if you want them to become an artist then they should learn some basic color theory but when it comes down to it learning about shapes, geometry, proportion and how they interconnect to create images is far more important then just scribbling with colors.
Only a parent with the combined support of a teacher can bring that child to fully develop their creative thinking abilities. As parents we need to combine our efforts and work with our school teachers.
Some programs are not geared enough towards the more important skills but in most cases if you build a good relationship with the amazing teachers at the schools they will cater their curriculum to help your children learn what you feel is more important.
Most of the time if
you feel your child is not learning the right skills or is behind it is because as a parent you just weren't putting enough work into it. We have all made the mistake of spending more time on our social media or watching stupid TV shows or got caught up in other distraction and neglected our children.With my daughter I made so many mistakes and experimented until we found a common ground and balance between school and home work. Although as she gets older and goes through new phases things need to keep being adjusted but I learned the hard way that school is where you bring your child to refine the skills you taught them at home from birth until they reach at least 8.
Once a child is 8 years old in some cases they may already be smarter and more knowledgeable than their parents are in some areas. When it comes to some subjects like math occasionally I feel my almost 5 year old has already surpassed me so I need to be extra careful not to teach her incorrect information.
With all the access to information and technology available to them they are able get to the information faster than we ever could.
For this reason as parents from the day they are born until then we have to ensure they have a good foundation so that they can build on it as well as get to good quality information. The other draw back of the internet and technology is that there is also a lot of bad information.
If we don't make sure our kids understand the difference between good, bad, honorable behavior and being dishonest, they will learn it the hard way and blame us for not teaching them.
